I am a recent graduate of the Department of Sociology at the University of Virginia (2009) and work as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Mississippi State University.  I am also an affiliated faculty member in the programs of African American Studies and Gender Studies.

My research rests at the intersection of the sociology of race & ethnicity, cultural sociology, media studies, and symbolic interaction.  My research agenda examines (1) racial identity formation, (2) racialized associations and organizations, and (3) the production, distribution, and reception of mass-mediated racial representations.
